Why this website exists

Learning a language can be expensive and confusing. Apps, tutors, schools, subscriptions and free resources all promise progress, but they serve different needs. The Language Learning Resource aims to make those choices easier through transparent, research-led explanations.

Who the site is for

Adults learning for travel, relocation, careers, relationships and personal interest; people returning after a long break; and learners who have used apps but still struggle to speak.

How our research is carried out

• We start with a defined reader question and the decision the reader needs to make.
• We consult official provider documentation, educational organisations and relevant public bodies for product features, rules and requirements.
• We state the date when information was last checked and link to the underlying source wherever practical.
• We clearly distinguish provider statements, independent evidence, practical examples and opinion.
• We do not claim to have purchased, used or personally tested a product unless that testing has actually happened.
• We include free alternatives and important limitations, even if a paid option is discussed.

Our connection with tutoring

The website is a separate information project from English With Paul, an English-tutoring business. Its operator has experience teaching English and uses the Preply platform as a tutor. Because that creates a potential commercial interest, coverage of Preply must explain its limitations and should never present the platform as automatically better than alternatives.

Commercial relationships

Some articles may eventually contain clearly identified affiliate links. We will disclose potential commissions next to recommendations and maintain a separate affiliate disclosure page. No commission is earned merely because a product is mentioned.

Corrections and updates

Subscription prices, visa requirements, course availability and provider policies change. If a detail is outdated, the provider’s official website is the final authority. We will review time-sensitive articles regularly and correct errors when identified.
